Union Oyster House Established in 1826 at 41 Union Street, on Blackstone Block in Boston, this is America’s oldest restaurant. In 1742 the building was known as “At the sign of the cornfields.” Hopestill Capen imported goods from Europe, which were delivered to the back door by ships! Today the Oyster House is almost one half mile from the waterfront. Much of Boston is built on landfill.
